Everton FC’s 10 point deduction: the view of a Liverpool FC supporter

It’s been widely reported that Everton Football club has been docked 12 points for financial irregularities in the last few weeks.

Now I am a Liverpool FC supporter through and through. Everton FC is the other team in Liverpool. Both stadiums are separated by Stanley Park and at most a 10-minute walk apart. However, believe it or not, I don’t want to see them get relegated to the lower leagues.

Let me explain why.

Firstly after the Hillsborough disaster, the city was devastated. I’ve never seen anything like it but every Everton supporter put all differences aside and did everything possible for those affected.

I was there at the Merseyside Derby game (Liverpool FC vs. Everton FC) at Goodison Park which was the first game after the Hillsborough disaster on 15th April 1989. At half time a bunch of Liverpool supporters walked around the perimeter of the pitch with a banner saying “Liverpool FC fans thank EFC fans.” I could find no image of this. A standing ovation resulted.

I did find this image however after the truth of Hillsborough came out.

Supporters of both teams have come together if and when a tragedy affects the city.

In later 2021 a young 12-year-old girl called Ava white was murdered in Liverpool. A few days later at the Merseyside derby on 2nd December 2021 a minute applause was given at the 12th minute for the young lady. Please take a moment to watch this fitting tribute from both sets of supporters.

Even Liverpool FC star Trent Alexander Arnold played tribute to this young lady after the game.
