Scrapping the winter fuel allowance- an act of incredible stupidity.
The UK government has proposed scrapping the £300 winter fuel allowance for the elderly in a bid to plug an alleged £20 billion in the country’s finances.
This to me is an act of stupidity.

I looked at various government documents today and my heart goes out to the mums, dads, grandmothers and grandfathers of the UK. They must be very worried for their children and grandchildren. They are looking at bringing in a lot of tax rises to plug a £25 billion hole. Speaking as a trader I can’t see what the problem is. The UK government income is around £1.06 trillion a year (Just over £1000 billion.) (1) and (2).
In other words they want to raise taxes to plug a gap of £25 billion out of an income of £1000 billion. That is 2.5% of their annual income.
So let’s put this into layman’s terms. Let’s say you earned £1000 per week. If you can’t save £25 per week out of a £1000 per week income i.e 2.5% of your income then something is seriously wrong! Most of us could go to the supermarket for our weekly shop and find a way to cut down our expenditure by £25 if we earned £1000 per week!
